New Solar Licencing Scheme Operator

On the 29th February 2024, the Clean Energy Regulator (CER) approved the Solar Accreditation Australia (SAA) as the new installer and designer accreditation scheme operator under the Small Scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES). This was previously managed by the Clean Energy Council (CEC). The SAA was established with a focus on raising industry standards and promoting consumer confidence. With a mission to streamline processes, and enhance transparency.

Solar Accreditation Australia is responsible for overseeing renewable energy installers and designers. With the intent to support a growing workforce to deliver smart energy solutions for Australian households and businesses. The accreditation process is designed to validate quality and safe work practices are being met.

Compliance procedures ensure Australian Standards, SAA Guidelines and many other industry regulations are being met and standard of work upheld. When the SAA is notified of an installation that does not meet industry standards, the accredited person is contacted and a notice of rectification is raised and in some cases demerit points are accrued. Demerit points are allocate based on 2 factors;
1. Technical non-complaince
2. Safety non-compliance.
Demerit points are accrued for a 2 year term and then lapse. If 21 or more points are accrued in the 2 year period, the accreditated person may be suspended or cancelled from the scheme.

As we always say – do your research. Please follow this link to confirm your accredited solar installer has transitioned across to the SAA as of March 2024 and is legally able to install your solar power system.
